STYLE RESOLUTIONS TO ELEVATE YOUR WARDROBE

Updated: Jan 25

What do many people start off the year doing? Setting New Years resolutions of course! I have never been a fan of big new years resolutions, instead I like to focus on small practical and achievable goals that I'm most likely to stick to. As part of this my wardrobe plays a huge part in how it evolves in line with my goals and how I want to express myself to the world.

Building a good wardrobe that you love takes time and patience so here are some style resolutions that may inspire you to take small intentional steps towards building a dream wardrobe that serves you well throughout the year.

Reflect on your style journey

Before we start, it is important to reflect on your style journey. How does your wardrobe make you feel? What fashion choices did you make last year that made you feel confident? Get a note book and start taking notes on your style likes and dislikes. Once you understand what is working for your lifestyle then you can start to visualise an idea of how you want to express yourself through your clothes.

Set Clear Style Goals

You don't have to set lots of style goals at once, it could simply be focusing on one thing such as experimenting with a new colour palette or trying out different accessories to elevate your outfits. If you want to start working towards building a sustainable wardrobe maybe you could look at trying out a few sustainable brands by incorporating these new pieces into your wardrobe. Your personal style goals will help you towards embracing a signature style that reflects your personality.

Here's some examples of sustainable brands that may inspire you to incorporate sustainable brands in your wardrobe. Click on the product text to go to the brand sites.

Declutter and Organize:

When I work with any new client I always recommend a wardrobe declutter session first. This is fundamental in helping you to gain clarity on your style, it will also help you to identify pieces that no longer align with your lifestyle. An organised and cohesive wardrobe clothes will give you piece of mind when getting ready daily.

Plan outfits from your existing wardrobe

This is one task that many of my personal styling clients want to learn when they start working with me. Try to allocate some time to plan and build outfits from existing pieces in your wardrobe. You may be surprised by how many outfits you can actually create. Pull out staple pieces then start building up looks with key basics, outwear, shoes and accessories to complete the look. Planning outfits daily or for events ahead will be a lot less stressful.

Experiment with Textures, PRINTS AND COLOUR

Note the prints, colours and accessories that you are drawn to then use these to elevate your everyday outfits. Push yourself out of your comfort zone by experimenting with colour combinations, print clashing or adding textures to create different looks. Mixing and matching patterns and textures can be such a fun way to change up your looks. See some examples of the items below.

Invest in Timeless Pieces

In the current economical climate it is paramount that you only purchase items that will serve you well. As a busy London personal stylist it is my responsibility to educate my clients on how to utilise every item in their wardrobe. Every purchase must be intentional, so before you buy think about how that one item of clothing can create at least three different outfit options for you.  Purchase the best quality you can or if you are on a budget try shopping preloved. There are so many amazing quality brands that can be found on preloved shopping sites such as Vinted and eBay. Timeless pieces such as a well-fitted blazer, quality denim, a versatile black dress and comfortable footwear will last you years.
