STATEMENTS COATS

Updated: Jan 6

We are not in the depths of a cold dark winter just yet, but it is not far away. If there is one thing that everyone one will see a lot of, it is your coat. So make sure it is a good one! why not let your coat make a statement this winter. A bright bold colour, a striking print or interesting texture will certainly make a statement. It will also cheerfully lift your mood throughout wintery days and beyond.

I have seen so make lovely coats out there lately that I just had to write a blog about it.

As a personal fashion stylist I do advise my clients that investing in a classic coat is always a good idea, but it doesn't have to be boring. Adding a splash of print or colour through a scarf to revive an old classic always makes it feel new again. I have about five coats that I have had for many years and wear in rotation. Including a mixture of classics and statement colour coats. They are certainly mood lifters when I need them on cold, dark days.

selecting a colour and print for your shape

Knowing the best colours that suit your skin tone can make a huge difference in selecting the right colour coat for you. Wearing the right colours will make you look healthier and give you a natural glow. Wearing the wrong colours can really have the opposite affect. If you don't know what your season is you can discover this by booking my online colour analysis service. Click here.

Prints and patterns can give a pop of personality to any outfit but it is also important to understand the basics of what prints can do visually. Horizontal lines and large prints can add volume and small prints and vertical lines will decrease volume and give a lengthening affect. Larger body shapes tend to look good in large to medium size patterns, whereas petite shapes look best in small prints. So, this worth noting when you are choosing a coat for yourself.

Know what coat styles suit your shape

Understanding your body shape is also fundamental in choosing the right coat for you. Once you know what suits you then can make the right investment in a statement coat that you will love wearing for many years to come. I think belted coats and a single breasted coat with medium elongating labels and invisible pockets are universally flattering on most shapes. If you would like to discover what coat styles will suit your shape then check out this blog I wrote that is very useful click here

Here are my high street picks of the best statement coats around. I have created a few outfit ideas with some of my selections to give you a good idea on how you can wear them.
